We headed up to Dartmoor on Saturday. A beautiful day for the summer solstice, we thought the beach would be heaving. It was a good choice, Archie was in a (happy) running, shouting, jumping and stamping mood. The beauty of Dartmoor is that you can do as much running, shouting, jumping and stamping as you like without disturbing anyone. Archie was keen to walk, so keen I had problems persuading him to turn around and head for home. I eventually had to coax him with the promise of a strawberry cornetto. On the way back down we passed a horse and having got the jumping and and stamping out of this system Archie stood and watched the horse quietly and peacefully for about 5 minutes.
The view from our picnic spot:
I LOVE these photos! So good to get out & free to burn off all that incredible steam. My little guy Levi is only 7 but similar in many ways with the need to run, stamp & scream. Of course it was the shortest day here on the other side of the world and we are finally starting to feel a little bit cold!
I couldn’t keep up! Our shortest day was in the midst of awful weather in 2013, I remember being pleased that we had turned a corner and the days were slowly going to get lighter.
Yes, keeping up could definitely be a problem! We’ve only really just hot to the point where he is able to walk along with us without running off. That was a corner I was extremely happy to turn!
Snap! Re the running off. We has to teach ‘stop’ & not allow much of a head start….
Oh that was me – I’m on my phone & it’s not recognising me!
Love LOVE love the pics . . . AND the mental image your words inspire, Christianne 🙂 !!!
Thank you Lisa! It was a great few hours…
Oh my word, the scenery is to die for. I am so delighted for you that Archie loves walking and also gets to do all his running, jumping etc as much as he wants to. You have captured him beautifully.
I love Dartmoor. Not as spectacular as Africa (I visited South Africa as a child) – but I feel at home there & love the space.
